Inlays

Inlays are fillings that are precision made in the laboratory or by our CAD/CAM CEREC engine.

Inlays are used when important functional areas of the tooth are damaged and need to be replaced.  Normal fillings are adequate in small to moderate sized defects but when structural parts of the tooth are damaged, traditionally the use of pins and screws is advocated.  However, recent research has demonstrated that the use of pins introduces further complications increasing the risk of damage to the dental pulp – remedied by root canal treatment.

Inlay

Inlays can often be alternatives to conventional crowns which can be quite destructive to the tooth.  The greater the destruction to the tooth, the increased chance of pulp damage and hence the increased risk of requiring root canal treatment.  Inlays are less destructive than crowns and can perform the same function.
