Naturally, the effect of tooth loss varies from person to person and depends on what exactly has been lost. When an entire tooth or a number of teeth are lost shrinkage of the jawbone may occur making the face look older. Dental implants can stop this process. Dental implants look, feel and function like your own natural teeth. They can be used to replace single teeth or multiple lost teeth.

Loose dentures may also be secured with dental implants:
Denture stabilisation with dental implants
If you are a denture wearer, then dental implants can offer an excellent fixed solution for you. They can be used to secure dentures to the jawbone so that you can chew and talk with confidence. Numerous patients have benefited from this treatment.
They can also eliminate the numerous embarrassing inconveniences of removable partial and full dentures. You will no longer need to cover your mouth when you laugh or smile for fear that your teeth will move or fall down whilst talking or eating.
With dental implants you can eliminate the use of denture adhesives that must be re-applied during the day. In addition dental implants help eliminate the pain and discomfort of removable full or partial dentures. Since dentures sit on top of the jawbone and gums, continuous shrinkage of the jaw bone alters the fit of the denture resulting in slipping or rocking of the dentures.
Long term denture wearers commonly complain of moving and uncomfortable lower dentures. This can be quite serious due to their being very little bone.
To rectify the problem the treatment is quite simple.

In the lower jaw two implants are usually required to stabilise a denture. More implants can be added to further secure the denture or the implants can even be linked via a bar which the denture attaches to. This will increase the stability of the denture significantly.

In the upper jaw typically four implants are required to stabilise an upper denture as the bone tends to be softer.

Denture Stabilisation with mini-implants
Mini implants are used for denture stabilisation. They are considerably cheaper than dental implants as no surgery is required for the placement and patients can leave with their mini-implants and denture fitted in a single visit! This means that the patient walks out of the surgery on the day of with a lower denture which is not only solidly stable, but can be used to eat immediately.
