Occlusal Analysis & Therapy

Occlusal (bite) problems manifest themselves in bizarre symptoms such as headaches, joint pains, facial pain, muscle pains. Often, patients attend their doctors’ surgery only to be placated by anti-inflammatories and painkillers.

At Aesthetique, we are trained to identify the causes of these debilitating chronic symptoms and to remedy them.

Surprisingly, treatment is very simple and involves making working models of your teeth and mouth, analysing them and then correcting the defects.

This can be in two ways:

Occlusal equilibration – interferences in the bite are identified on working models, and small adjustments are made to teeth, fillings and prostheses.

Splint therapy – after initial impressions, an occlusal splint (made of either rubber or hard plastic) is constructed. This is worn usually at night to ensure the reasons for the occlusal problem are removed.

“If left unchecked, abnormal occlusal stresses can lead to accelerated wear of teeth, tooth fracture, problems with individual teeth (leading to removal), persistent debonding of fillings and crowns and chronic pain.
